Trivial

Hey guys, I took a break from essay writing to have a little fiddle with maya...theres a sentence I never thought I would say.

Anyway when I load it up I get some little problems. For one my grid has shrunk down to be really small and also when I switch to my front or side views unless I'm zoomed in real close then my image planes and actual parts of the model dissapear. It's not my clip plane cos I set them all up proper at the start.

Wondering if it's because I'm working from a maya 2010 file in 8.5. but I don't think that's it. They are problems I can work around but if any of you have had this problem before and know how to get around it I'd appreciate the advice.

Cheers.

  1. I'm not the best person to answer really. Sounds like you've tried alot of different things. One of the other guys should know. Speak to you soon.

  2. number 1: Grid. The grid would be working on the old presets from your old project files or whatever is set to default (i would have thought this) hence the whole naming projects and stuff. You need to basically re-apply the grid (just check the settings and click off(as in hide it) the grid and then re-enter the grid it shud wrk.... I vaguely remember suming like that happen to me however i am really having trouble thinking about it without it happening to me. I shall have a think about it and et back to you though. Its a case of hitting the right buttons under the grid plane area tho (possibly in the settings and prefs again and just re-apply what you want it to be)

Number 2: something about your textures not showing up? Could be something to do with your settings yet again. You may be on 'best quality' or FAST performance or something along those lines (within the preferences) I THINK theres a window there which says something like baked viewports or something like that. COULD be this...but its kinda an unsure area... alternatively mess around with the resolution of the image file. Maya has a MAX res image (like the far clip plane) and will only show images in the viewport if they are below the max res. This I think again....in preferences and settings under display I believe.

Ok I shall correct any of this shizzle 2mr as I havn't booted into Maya but thats what I'm thinking at the moment.

  3. the grid could just be the settings that you've got it on i.e. meters/centimeters etc. so try what dan said but it could just be that.

For the models dissappearing, its probably the camera attributes settings. If you go into the VIEW drop down menu in the maya grid view. Go down to CAMERA ATTRIBUTE EDITOR... and a window will pop up on your right. In the CAMERA ATTRIBUTES put the NEAR CLIP PLANE to 1 and the FAR CLIP PLANE to about 10000 and should be good to go. U'll probs have to do this for all the other orthographic views but its a piece of cake. This is usually the problem cos i get it quite a bit now and again lol but afterall it is Maya.

If ur textures aint showing up then it could be just the case of re-locating them on your shaders. If your textures are all in the same file, after you re-locate 1 then it should automatically do it for the rest

    Hope I've helped a bit! :D

  4. I appreciate the responses guys I'll try some of the stuff out once this ruddy essay is finished.

I know it's not the clipping planes or the grid settings since I made sure I carefully set them up at the start, since I had troubles with these last time I modelled some characters.
